how can we improve comprehension?
Reading is not just about decoding the words on a page. It is important to understand what you are reading. We have been using 'close reading' as a way to improve our comprehension skills. What is close reading?
Within our reading groups, we are rereading the same text multiple times. Each time we read we are focusing on a different skill.
1. First, we read to decode the words. We use decoding strategies to figure out words we are having trouble with.
2. . Next, we read and look for important or unfamiliar words and try to determine the meaning of them.
2. Last, we read and answer comprehension questions using text evidence.
As you read throughout the week with your child, try this strategy! Focus on one skill each time you read.

This new app will allow us to post videos and pictures of things from our school day. You can log in and see only your child's work. Please watch the video to see how the app works and look out for the login information!

About me!
Welcome to our class website. My name is Mrs. Innace. I have been teaching for 11 years and I absolutely love it! I have two kids, Mia and Ben. We love to go to the park, the zoo, and the beach. I enjoy reading, country music, and spending time with my friends and family. I am looking forward to an exciting year! |
Throughout the year we always run low on the following supplies. Any contributions of these items would be helpful! :) - Disinfectant wipes - Tissues - Paper towels - Dry erase markers |
